Ladoga - Funeral services for Fred Fordice ASHBY, 75, brother of W. Wallace Ashby of Ladoga were held in the Presbyterian Church in Jackson, Tenn where he had lived. The Ladoga native suffered a stroke June 29 and died an hour later while en route to the hospital. Mr. Ashby, who operated the Ashby Veneer & Lumber Co. in Jackson had been a resident of that community since 1913 when he and his brother, Tom, moved there from Indianapolis to establish the veneer company. The two brothers were partners in the establishment until Tom Ashby's recent death. In addition to his lumber business, Ashby was a director of one of the town's leading banks, at the same time that his brother was a director in another bank. Active in church affairs, he was an elder of the Presbyterian Congregation. He was also prominent in the Jackson Masonic Lodge. He attended Purdue University but transferred to Wabash College where he graduated in 1906. The former business man was born June 9, 1882, the son of Robert L. and Alice Fordice Ashby. He was married 25 years ago to Roxie Everett, who survivies. Also surviving is a sister, Bertha Ashby, of Bloomington; a sister, Mrs. John (Dulcie) Myers. Two infant brothers preceded him in death. - kbz
